POPULATION SERVED

The WIC target population are low income, nutritionally at risk:

Pregnant women (through pregnancy and up to six (6) weeks after birth or after pregnancy ends)

Breastfeeding women (up to infants 1st birthday)
-
Non-breastfeeding postpartum women (up to 6 months after the birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends)

Infants (up to 1st birthday). WIC serves 53% of all infants born in the United States
-
Children up to their 5th birthday.
Services Offered

Breastfeeding Support
The Rosebud Sioux Tribe WIC Program offers compassionate and practical breastfeeding support, including:

Personalized one-on-one counseling from trained staff on latch techniques, positioning, and managing common concerns (e.g. low supply or sore nipples)

Ongoing encouragement and guidance during prenatal and postpartum check-ins

Access to lactation aids, such as breast pumps and related supplies, when medically indicated

Warm referrals to local breastfeeding support groups and lactation consultants
This ensures nursing parents in the Rosebud community receive knowledgeable, culturally respectful support throughout their breastfeeding journey.

Nutrition Education and Counseling
At Rosebud WIC, our Nutrition Education and Counseling services empower families with the knowledge and tools to thrive. Through one-on-one and group sessions, participants receive:

Rosebud WIC provides healthy, age-appropriate foods to support growth and wellness for pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children. Each food package includes items like fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, milk, eggs, infant formula, and more — all selected to meet key nutritional needs and promote lifelong healthy eating habits.
